The Confucius Institute at T.A.Marryshow Community College, Grenada, is an educational and cultural exchange institution established through the partnership between Ningbo University of Technology and T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC). It was officially established in 2015 and was successfully upgraded to a Confucius Institute (CI) in 2022. Rooted in Chinese language instruction and bonded by cultural exchange, it has become a vital platform fostering friendly ties between China and Grenada.


   
   

The Institute is the only dedicated Chinese language and culture education provider in Grenada. It also serves as a recommending body for the Confucius Institute Scholarship. Currently, it operates 12 teaching sites spanning two campuses of TAMCC and various local primary and secondary schools. It features a fully functional, 160-square-meter teaching and activity space. The facilities include offices and a Chinese Cultural Experience Center, which also functions as a multimedia classroom.The institute boasts a professional and diverse teaching team, comprising 1 Chinese director, 1 part-time Grenadian director, 2 part-time Grenadian assistants, 6 Chinese teachers, 4 volunteers, and 3 locally recruited instructors.

The Institute has developed a multi-level curriculum system, covering university credit-bearing Chinese courses, “Happy Chinese” programs for primary and secondary students, HSK Level 1-3 preparatory courses, martial arts, and Tai Chi classes. By 2025, the number of registered students exceeded 900, with a consistent 100% pass rate in HSK exams. The Institute has launched the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” program, offering practical courses such as automotive maintenance training program. Furthermore, it has independently developed the localized textbook “Happy Caribbean: Elementary Chinese.”

For cultural exchange, the Institute annually hosts events including the “Chinese Bridge” competition, Spring Festival Gala, International Chinese Language Day, Chinese Song Contest, and local summer camps. Meanwhile, it actively expands communication channels—leveraging AI for cultural presentation, producing the documentary Exploring Grenada, and launching the bilingual journal Four Seasons at Confucius Institute—to continuously broaden and deepen the reach of cultural exchange.

In January 2025, the Prime Minister of Grenada visited Ningbo University of Technology and highly commended the achievements of TAMCC CI.

In November 2025, the institute’s project was selected as a “ Exemplary Case” for Digital Application and Practice in Confucius Institutes, co-hosted by the Chinese International Education Foundation and University of Science and Technology Beijing. This recognition solidifies its standing as an outstanding global representative of digital innovation and practice among Confucius Institutes worldwide.
