I.Basic Information
The School of Statistics and Data Science at Ningbo University of Technology traces its origins back to the Mathematics Teaching and Research Office of Ningbo Higher Vocational College, which was established in 1984 during the initial stage of the college's establishment. It was responsible for teaching public mathematics courses across the entire school. In 1985, the college established the Basic Department. In May 2007, the School of Science was established. In January 2024, it was renamed the School of Statistics and Data Science. In September 2024, the school was approved to offer a master's degree program in "Applied Statistics".
II.Teaching
The college covers four first-level disciplines: mathematics, statistics, economics, and computer science and technology. Among them, applied statistics, data mining, and applied mathematics are key construction disciplines of the university. The discipline of statistics has been selected as a dominant and characteristic discipline in Ningbo City for the year 2024, and "applied statistics" has been included in the key support plan of the university's "14th Five-Year Plan" discipline planning.
III. Research
The college teachers have undertaken more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as more than 20 provincial and ministerial level projects such as the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences and Zhejiang Provincial Natural Sciences. They have published over 400 papers in high-level journals both domestically and internationally, 33 textbooks, 8 monographs, and led over 260 horizontal scientific research projects, with a total of over 14 million yuan in funds received; Won 1 third prize for scientific and technological progress in Zhejiang Province, 2 second prizes for national industry associations, 3 awards for excellent natural science papers in Ningbo City, and 8 awards for statistical science achievements in Ningbo City.
IV.Student Development
The college has established several student innovation and competition platforms, including the Ningbo CAS Maker Space, Mathematical Modeling, and Cloud Platforms. Over the past three years, students have excelled in scientific and technological competitions, winning a total of 97 national-level awards and 194 provincial/ministerial-level awards. Notable achievements include: Winning one First Prize and one Second Prize in the 2022 National Mathematical Contest in Modeling for Chinese college students. Achieving the top honor, the Finalist Award (F Award), at the 2024 Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM), setting a new institutional record. The college strongly supports student innovation and entrepreneurship, currently hosting 9 student studios, including the Glass Ball Studio and the Mathematical Modeling Studio. The Glass Ball Studio has earned prestigious titles such as the "Chinese Academy of Sciences Maker Space Subdivision," "Ningbo Outstanding University Student Group," and "University-Level Outstanding Club. In the past three years, students have demonstrated remarkable practical output:Filed for 43 software copyrights and patents.Published 24 academic papers.Secured14 projects under the National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. Obtained 6 projects from the Zhejiang Provincial "Xinmiao" Student Scientific Innovation Plan.The college has a strong track record in graduate admissions, with over 160 graduates admitted to postgraduate programs at renowned institutions worldwide. The postgraduate admission rate has remained stable at around 30% in recent years, and the employment rate for graduates consistently exceeds 95%.
