I.Basic Information
The predecessor of the International Exchange College(IEC) at Ningbo University of Technology was the "Overseas Education Center," established in 1998. In 2004, it was officially renamed International Exchange College. Serving as the university’s core base for implementing its internationalization strategy and a key window for external cooperation, IEC actively aligns with the national Belt and Road Initiative to support the new era’s pattern of opening up in education. It has established a development framework of "one engine with two wings": the "engine" is to build a high-level international college with distinctive features, while the "two wings" consist of international student education and management, and college English teaching. IEC is committed to fostering an open, inclusive, and mutually engaging international education ecosystem.
II.Teaching
International Exchange College at Ningbo University of Technology serves as the university’s designated unit for international student affairs, primarily responsible for the recruitment, management, and services of international students, as well as Chinese language teaching and China’s national education for them. It also organizes programs such as Chinese language courses and short-term exchange programs in China. In addition, IEC oversees the teaching of college English and elective courses for non-English major students across the university. Adhering to the university’s strategy of “dual‑driven development through industry‑education integration and internationalization,” IEC places teaching at its core, continuously stimulating students’ initiative in foreign language learning. It is committed to cultivating application‑oriented talents with a global vision, cross‑cultural communication skills, and innovative thinking. Through teaching reforms and curriculum development, IEC has fostered a proactive English learning atmosphere across the campus, strongly supporting the university’s goal of internationalizing talent cultivation.
III. Research
In 2025, IEC hosted the “Echo Between Mountains and Seas” – 2025 Social Science Empowerment Conference for Ningbo‑Quzhou Mountain‑Sea Collaboration, which was attended by representatives from municipal and district social science federations, government bodies, universities, and enterprises from Ningbo and Quzhou. IEC was awarded 1 project from the National Social Science Fund of China, 2 projects from the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, 3 projects from the Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund, 1 project from the Provincial Department of Education, 3 projects from the Municipal Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund, and 1 project from the Municipal Government Research Office. The total research funding received for research projects reached RMB 463,000. Related achievements resulted in 3 instructions from leaders at or above the provincial/ministerial level, including 1 instruction from a national leader (as a co‑contributor). IEC also had 1 submission adopted by the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), 4 submissions adopted by the All‑China Federation of Industry and Commerce, 9 submissions adopted or accepted by Zhejiang Democratic League, 1 submission adopted by Ningbo Committee of CPPCC, and 1 submission adopted by Ningbo Education Bureau. In addition, 4 submissions were sent as commissioned articles to the General Office of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. IEC published 9 papers in Chinese core journals, 1 SSCI paper, and 1 international conference paper.
IV.Student Development
Since IEC began admitting non-degree students in 2007 and launched degree education for international students in 2013, it has cultivated nearly 800 international students from over 70 countries worldwide. In 2019, the centralized management function for international students was transferred to the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation. In September 2024, IEC resumed its responsibilities for international student recruitment and management. Currently, through its collaboration with relevant secondary colleges, IEC has established a multi-level training system covering master's degree students, undergraduate degree students, language students and short-term exchange students. In the 2025 academic year, the total number of international students on campus was 247, including 14 master's degree students, 160 undergraduate degree students, 64 language students, and 9 exchange students.
V.International Exchange
IEC was formerly the “Overseas Education Center” established in 1998, and was renamed the International Exchange College in 2004. It serves as a key base for the university’s internationalization strategy and an important window for strengthening international cooperation and educational services. Since 1999, IEC has partnered with South Sydney College in Australia to offer a double-diploma associate degree program in International Business, producing over a thousand outstanding graduates in this field. Starting in 2011, IEC launched undergraduate joint programs with Delaware State University and Wayne State University in the United States. Currently, IEC offers two undergraduate joint programs: Accounting (SINO‑US) Program and Computing Science (SINO‑US) Program, with a total of 983 full-time undergraduate students enrolled in these programs.
